Photinia fraseri appeared around 1955 and has 'fiery' red new growth in Spring. It grows well in neutral and chalky soils but avoid heavy clay. Ensure a sunny postition when planting.
Pruning: Cut back new growth once the colour has gone and you will be rewarded with a second colourful display.
Propagation: Plant cuttings in a cold frame in summer.
Recommended Varities: Photinia fraseri 'Red Robin' - young foliage is bright red in spring, changing to deep green as it matures. Grows to a height of approx 2.5m (8ft)
Photinia fraseri 'Robusta' - bears large laurel - like leaves and new growth is coppery red. Tall growing variety.
