Lichen loves poor drainage and low nutrients. Cutting your grass regularly and removing the cuttings, removes nutireints from the soil. Lawns may also become compacted over time causing poor drainage. This encourages Lichen growth.
To remedy the problem, aerate the area and feed with an 'NPK' lawn fertilser containing about 9% nitrogen. Then put in place a lawn care regimen of feeding three times a year, top dressing and scarifying to prevent a recurrence in future...
