Brown rot in apples can be recognised by the fruit turning brown and concentric rings of yellowish mould. The fruit may remain on the tree through winter or it may fall. This fungal infection cannot be controlled by spraying and the affected fruit should be removed and destroyed. Store only sound fruit and examine them regularly.
